The majority of Slovenes over 82 %, are Roman – Catholics.

In most resorts you will find car Rental Agencies. In most resorts you will find a mixture of well-known international car rental companies and smaller local companies. See your resort representative for more details.


RESTAURANTS (Restavracija)
There are various of names for restaurants in Slovenia . Restavracija is a place where you sit down and get served, and they usually serve international and few local dishes. Gostilna is usually a place popular with locals the focus being mainly local dishes . Okrepčevalnica is a place for a quick snack. Some restaurants and gostilnas have a set menu for lunch (dnevni meni).


SHOPPING (Nakupi)
Shops in general are open from 8 to 9 am in the morning and work through the day to 7 or 8 pm. During high season some are opened until 10 pm. Some shops close for lunch between 12 noon and 2 pm. Most tourist shops are open on Sunday. You will find the opening times displayed on the shop door. When looking for things to buy, the most popular items for visitors to take home include lace from Idrija, carved wooden pipes with silver covers from Bohinj, Hungarian style black pottery from Prekmurje and crystal from Roga{ka.


SPORTS (šport)
For people who like more active holidays a wide variety of sports and other recreational activities are available. Among the most popular activities are tennis, cycling, fishing, horseback riding, river rafting, canoeing, kayaking and hiking. For the more adventurous, the panoramic flights over the Slovenian coast are organised from Portoroz airport. Other activities like parachuting, paragliding or ballooning are also possible. For more information about golfing please ask your representative or the hotel reception.


TAXI
Taxis are available in all resorts. If you wish to order a taxi it is best to ask the hotel reception to call one for you. Before getting into the taxi, ask the driver to confirm the fare to your chosen destination.


TELEPHONE (Telefon)
Telephoning from Slovenia is simple. The exit code from Slovenia is 00 followed by the code for your country ( UK 44, IRE 353); when dialing your area code you drop the 0 and dial the rest of the number as usual. Telephone calls can be made from the Post Office, your hotel or from the public payphones, in which case you need a phone card. Phone cards are available in Post Offices, newspaper shops or any other place with the phone-card advertisement on the door.


TIPPING (Napitnine)
Tipping is appreciated by those who provide service such as waiters, bar staff, chambermaids, drivers and tour guides. If you were satisfied with the service given then it is customary to leave a tip. Between 5% - 10% or rounding up would be considered suitable.


TRANSPORT
Local transport is generally reliable and punctual, but it can sometimes get overcrowded. For bus times you can ask the reception of your hotel or your representative. Trains are available from Koper.


WATER (Voda)
Tap water in Slovenia is safe and pleasant to drink. However Slovenian tap water does have a higher mineral content compared with the tap water in the UK and Ireland . Bottled mineral water, either sparkling or still is available in supermarkets.
