FLOAVOUR OF ISTRIA - CROATIA

The very best of Istria

Pula, once the chief port of Austro-Hungarian Empire, is a bustling town situated at the south-east end of the Istrian peninsula. The Romans put the city squarely on the map in 177 BC, and the most obvious relic of their rule, the 1st century BC Amphitheatre is to be admired also today. The Arena (amphitheatre) occupies a dominant position above the harbour. It is the world's sixth largest preserved amphitheatre.

Rovinj is one of the most developed seaside resorts in Croatia. In a picturesque ambience of the ancient town, surrounded by luxuriant pine forests and thirteen islands Rovinj offers a whole range of opportunities to the visitors
It is one of the most attractive spots on the Adriatic, renown for its medieval architecture, remains of fortifications, labyrinth of street, stairways and picturesque squares.

One of the most renowned places on the Istrian peninsula is Poreč; a small harbour with a turbulent past lying on the western side of Istrian peninsula. Of special importance is the extraordinary 6th century Byzantine Basilica of St. Euphrasius with its magnificent mosaic.
